Finally, after years of stagnating, our neighborhood finally allowed Verizon’s FIOS TV in. Where I live, a lot of people are on the waiting list, but I joined this month and installation took place only this past week. At the present time, we were hooked up with FIOS internet, which provided 15MB downstream as well as upstream Ten dollars a month is all that the premium service costs. and I’ve been really satisfied.
Because I currently has Verizon FIOS internet service, connecting my TV was a simple installation. The technician installed the cables by taking my existing coax splitter and splitting the signal before the router. The coax cable laid outside, gets split as they enter your house, spread to all your rooms and in the process a downstream cable gets into the Coax connector of Verizon Internet Router. From that point the router communicated TCP/IP over RJ-45 and provides the house, but this is also used to assign IP addresses to the DVR over coax. (DVRs) that comes included along with your FIOS TV bundle.
The interface is very easy to use and very intuitive. There are also plenty of advanced features and shortcuts you’ll find as you become more familiar with the software. When you’re watching TV, selecting the buttons marked up, down, left or right will take you those directions. (which serves as a timesaver) to alternate modes instantaneously. To view a split-screen that has the TV guide on the left-hand side, push the up button, and in order to see a half-screen floating guide, push the down button. If you press “Guide” a single time, it delivers the full-screen menu, while hitting it two times takes you to a split-screen. Hit info once for a popup, hit it again for a full-screen page.
This DVR has a storage capacity of 17 viewing hours in HD, or 60 in SD broadcast (Similar Defintion) or whatever mix of the two you can take care of. Like with the majority of DVR devices, it is possible to adjust every recording as “protected”. (not deleted in an automatic manner) You may fix yourself in a queue with the last x recordings. It’s possible to choose new episodes exclusively, or to choose all shows including those that are repeats.
As for the cost, the Core Package is only $43 per month right now, and you get different DVR options to choose from including standard, High Def, standard DVR and High Def DVR. We found that paying $60 for cable TV wasn’t a good enough value considering how little TV we watch. Premium channels cost the same as with cable, most likely since HBO and Showtime set their own costs, rather than the provider.
We have been very pleased with the results. I am satisfied with Verizon’s picture quality and its set-top box; wish they come out with more choice of on-Demand movies and of course update the set-top boxes Verizon FIOS TV has been available in my area for only a month, but I feel they are providing a great service. It is recommended over local cable if you can get it.
